Who are we?

The Jagiellonian University in Krakow,  founded on 12 May 1364, is the oldest higher education institution in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe. Today, the Jagiellonian University comprises 16 Faculties, where 4 thousand academic staff conduct research and provide education to almost 50 thousand students, within the framework of more than 80 different fields of study. The eminent researchers and state-of-the-art infrastructure make the JU one of the leading Polish scientific institutions, collaborating with major academic centres from all over the world. According to the university’s mission it is highly important to foster innovation and build close relationships with the stakeholders and local community. To achieve this, at the university operates the Centre for Technology Transfer CITTRU, which is responsible for, among others: identification of JU innovations, legal protection of intellectual property developed at JU and development of the innovation portfolio. Jagiellonian University is aware of the great importance of staff development for innovation, research development and academic excellence. On 6 December 2017 the Jagiellonian University gained permission to use the Human Resources Excellence in Research logo, which is awarded by the European Commission within the framework of the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers, aimed to improve the quality of working life of researchers. On the other hand, the University provides a bunch of regular courses for academic teachers (both doctoral students and employed staff) within “Ars Docendi” initiative assigned to the Didactics Support Centre.

Why we are Participating in the Project

Jagiellonian University is most interested in developing RDI and investing in young researchers, especially nowadays, as the new law on Higher Education was introduced in Poland and doctoral training is now conducted in the doctoral schools. The JU is active in the field of LLL as an active member of the Malopolska Regional Platform for LLL and through its activities in the supra regional FREREF network. It is then crucial for the Jagiellonian University put together theory and practice and invest in both fundamental and applied research capacities. Moreover, members of JU staff are also widely recognised as experts in the area of Higher Education reforms (quality assurance, design of the national system of Centres of Excellence, proposal of a  national model of university governance and management, co-authoring national higher education development strategy etc.). This broad institutional and personnel potential as well as the capacity for international networking were brought together within this project to make an impact on the PHE research and strengthen the cooperation between leading European organizations and specialists operating in the field of PFH research.

Grantholder. Organization, coordination and management of the project. Contacts with Polish National Agency. Contribution to all Intellectual Outputs, hosting one Transnational Project Meeting, hosting two Multiplier Events.
